You may have seen a photo claiming to be of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S6 floating around the web lately. This “photo leak” comes from Toptienmobiel, a Dutch tech website, and supposedly shows a prototype of the device. As it turns out, though, this photo is a sham, and is not actually a photo of the upcoming device.
When originally looking at the photo of the device, it looks as if everything is in order. Stickers that were found on previous prototypes are where they should be, there’s a larger display, square design, and the typical Samsung markings and bottom buttons. There was something that stuck out, though.

The top of the device doesn’t look like anything Samsung has ever made or would ever make. It instead looks somewhat like the top of an iPhone, which the top likely comes from, and considering that Samsung has previously been sued by Apple for using a similar design, it’s unlikely that they’d ever use a design like this.
In actuality, this is a photo of a Samsung Galaxy Alpha that was taken a few weeks back, photoshopped to look as if it were some sort of new device. You’ll quickly notice when looking at the two photos below that the hand placement is exactly the same, as well as the finger placement, cord in the background, and lighting points. You’ll also spot that the display on the supposed “Galaxy S6” is nothing more than a black background pasted onto the photo.
While it would be lovely if we could see the Samsung flagship device so early on, it’s unlikely that we’ll see actual photos of the prototype released until early 2015, closer to the expected February-April unveiling and release. Samsung hasn’t yet officially announced anything regarding the device, but rumors have been flying around.
That’s the one thing to keep in mind with these photos and rumors that float around far before a device is released: they’re rumors, and until something is confirmed by Samsung, you can’t completely trust any info that appears online, no matter who the source is.
