Recover deleted files under your Mac OS X

Ever person loses files, even when using a Mac OS X. At one point, you’ll surely make a mistake of deleting an important file, emptying the Trash Bin, in the end only realizing that you needed the file after all. If you don’t have a back up, then what is there left to do now?

There are several tools available that can help you recover any deleted file under a Mac OS X. The chances of success in recovering the file though would depend on how you deleted the file and what you've done with your computer after mistakenly doing so.

On a Mac computer, deleting a file or moving it to the Trash Bin and then emptying the Bin, “deletes” it. Doing this, the deleted file (or the entry for that file) is removed from your disk directory list; yet, right after deleting the file, its data still remains on the disk space where it was saved. On the other hand still, by deleting the file or moving it to the Trash Bin, the computer is now perfectly ready to write a new data over it. It is at this point then that file recovery becomes more complicated.

If however you do not do anything or do not write/save anything NEW to the disk, the file recovery usually becomes a breeze.

If you’ve lost an important file on your Mac OS X, don't panic. Don’t get rid of your Mac computer right then and there! You can restore any data or file from your Macintosh with a Time Machine Backup. Time Machine Back Up is a backup program that is included within a Mac OS X and is a very simple and easy application to use.

On to recovering deleted files on your Mac computer... Below are the steps on how to restore files on your Mac computer using the Time Machine app:

How to recover deleted files under a Mac OS X:

1st Step:  When you plug in your external device to your Mac, Time Machine will automatically ask you whether you want to opt to use it for automatic back up. Simply click ‘Use as Backup Disk’.

2nd Step:  Check that the Time Machine preferences will show up. The Backup should then run automatically.

3rd Step:  Time Machine also has the option of facilitating how your computer conserves space on any of its drive. In other words, you can select which specific data you want to back up or not. Just choose the preference "Do not Backup" and Time Machine will automatically exclude the specific files or applications that you do not want restored.

4th Step:  The first time you back up will take lots of time as all the current data are copied. Later on though, the app will continuously save all new changes and create additional back up after every other hour.

5th Step:  If in case your Backup drive becomes full, the oldest backups will automatically be deleted to free up space for newer ones.

Time Machine’s simplicity and ease of use makes it very helpful, but Time Machine may also not be the best option for full data recovery. It is not the most efficient way to create complete backups and most of the time it becomes inadequate especially if you constantly do a lot of things with your Mac PC. It also functions very slowly which could at times be very frustrating. A lot of times, it may also become unresponsive and displays errors. More often than not, it may aggravate your problem further so for a faster and more complete system of doing Macintosh data backups, then you should consider a third party Mac OS X file data recovery tool... like Disk Drill.

Using a recovery software to get back deleted files

There are various ways you can get back your deleted file(s). First, it’s highly recommended that you try out the tool called ‘Disk Drill’.  Disk Drill has the ability to recover data from practically any drive or storage device, thus, no matter where you lost your files, you can simply connect the device to a Mac, and Disk Drill will automatically scan it and recover your lost data.

Disk Drill can restore all major types of file or file systems and it also allows you to scan the lost files WHILE previewing them for free with Disk Drill Basic. Once you’ve seen that your file is still available for recovery, you can then upgrade to Disk Drill PRO and get back your lost data.

Additionally, if you install Disk Drill Basic BEFORE any of your data was lost, then Disk Drill's data protection ‘Recovery Vault’ will automatically allow you to recover ALL lost data.

Thus, in the advent that you lose any of your Mac data due to unforeseen circumstances, you can simply install a reliable data recovery software (preferably BEFORE you delete any files or data) and in just a few clicks away, your Mac OS X data will be completely restored.

How a data recovery tool or software works – Disk Drill STEPS:

1. Download then install Disk Drill. You can click-and-drag the Disk Drill folder from the app folder to the Dock to easily install, then enter an admin password to finish the installation.

2. Start scanning the drive or drives you want to recover.

3. Next, Disk Drill will provide a complete list of files that can be recovered. Preview the files to check if the file or data you wish to restore is available and then simply select it.

 4. After selecting the file or files, select the specific location where you wish to restore the recovered files. Next, click "Recover". If you’re only using a Disk Drill Basic Quick Scan or Deep Scan and haven’t yet upgraded to PRO version yet, then you will be prompted to do so - so you can start recovering the data.

Congratulations! You now have an idea on how to restore deleted files or data via tools or software on your Mac OS X.
