Android KitKat image
The first step to returning your Nexus device to its original avatar is to first download the relevant Android KitKat image. These images are available on Google’s Developers website. The Android KitKat image too will be downloaded in a .tgz format, but before you extract it, ensure you have deleted all the files that were extracted from the Android L image. Then use WinRAR or 7-zip to extract the files to the same folder that contains the Android ADB and Fastboot tools.
Fastboot mode
The next steps are the same as the ones you followed to install Android L on your device. First off is putting the device in fastboot mode. Power it off, while still connected to the computer and either press the volume up, volume down and power buttons simultaneously, or in the command prompt, type ‘adb reboot-bootloader’ — without the quotation marks.
Unlock Bootloader
You will then need to unlock bootloader to install the Android KitKat image. In the command prompt type the command ‘fastbook oem unlock’ (without quotations) and in the confirmation page use the volume rocker to move the option to ‘Yes’ and press the power button to select the option.
Installing Android KitKat
Now that the device is prepped, in the command prompt simply type the flash-all command. This will start the process of installing Android KitKat onto your Nexus smartphone or tablet.
