The 6 Biggest Tech Screwups of 2013

1. BlackBerry, for building a really good business smartphone, but trying to market it as though it were an iPhone.
2. Apple, for damaging its own powerful brand by creating the flimsy-seeming Apple 5C. I’ll just say, this is the only one I don’t agree with. The 5C was created with the Chinese market in mind and perhaps it makes sense over there. On the other hand, Apple’s cutting production of them, so maybe Brandon is right and I’m wrong.
3. Microsoft, for putting the “Metro” touch interface into so many laptops, whose purchasers are mostly ignoring it.
4. Google, for pulling the plug on Reader even though many loved it, and proving it’s a brand that can’t be trusted after all.
5. Facebook for Facebook Home. Remember Facebook Home, that was supposed to become the Android interface of choice for smartphones, but quickly disappeared into obscurity? It vanished so fast that maybe you don’t.
6. The Federal Government for HealthCare.gov. No list if 2013 tech blunders would be complete without it, and to make matters worse, it’s still not fixed.
